Double Pane Glass

Benefits of Insulated Glass

Insulated glass units (IGUs) balance and help regulate your interior air, keeping it comfortably consistent. IGUs reduce interior heat and cool air loss through windows while blocking exterior air extremes, this allows a consistent temperature in every room.

An insulated glass unit has two or more pieces of glass with an insulating spacer between them that separates the panes of glass and seals the space between each pane. Some IGUs have argon or krypton gas added to the airspace between the panes to provide even more insulation properties.

Seal Replacements

What Causes "Broken Seals"?

Texas homes and buildings are built to withstand unforgiving summers, but windows will weaken over time. Seals will break, crack, and fail, making windows every building's main source of energy loss. Contraction and expansion of the seals due to early morning cool temperatures and late afternoon hot temperatures are the main causes of seal failure. A milky appearance or condensation under the panes are indicators that your window seals have a leak.

The Glass Truck team specializes in residential windowpanes and seal replacements so if you see any of these signs in your windows give us a call for the fastest most affordable foggy/broken window glass replacements or repairs.

Low-E Coating

Clear Double Pane (IGUs)
vs Low-E (IGUs)

Clear insulated glass units were once the standard panes used in homes; they are significantly better than the old single panes of glass that were used when glass was first introduced as a barrier to the exterior elements. They provide good insulation and great visibility but are no longer the “top tier” in insulation or energy savings for your home because there are now different types of coatings that are used on the double pane units which are known as “Low-E” coatings.

There are 3 types of low-e coatings that we recommend upgrading your current frames with:

Cardinal Low-E 270

Cardinal LoĒ²-270, has been specially formulated to reject the sun’s heat and damaging rays and keep your home cool and comfortable. The patented LoĒ²-270 coating provides high performance solar control and visual clarity. The result of all this engineering is that Cardinal LoĒ²-270 provides the ultimate in comfort because it reduces window heat gain by 50% or more when compared to ordinary glass.

Cardinal Low-E 366

When the temperature soars, ordinary window glass just cannot handle the heat and tinted glass spoils the view. Cardinal LoĒ³-366, however, has been specially formulated to reject the sun’s heat without affecting the view. It lets more light in and keeps more heat out. So, your home stays cool and comfortable. LoĒ³-366 coating provides the ultimate in performance because it also provides exceptional fading protection as well. It blocks 95% of the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays (a leading cause of fading), so it will help your furniture, carpets, curtains, and wall coverings stay beautiful for years to come.

Cardinal Low-E 240

Wherever glare is a problem, Cardinal LoĒ²-240® glass is the ideal solution. It is a specially treated version of our finest LoĒ² glass. But LoĒ²-240 does much more than just control glare. It also maintains year-round comfort. In summertime, it blocks oppressive solar heat gain and maintains cool glass temperatures. Then when winter rolls around, it keeps inside glass temperatures warm. Control and year-round comfort – that is the advantage of LoĒ²-240. Other tinted glass comes with glaring deficiencies. Regular tinted glass works by absorbing sunlight. The color of the glass changes with the thickness and becomes hot in the sunlight. However, LoĒ²-240 is a coating that is applied to clear glass, so that the appearance and performance are the same regardless of the glass thickness.
